Improving Quality with a Cobot Cell

Improving Safety, Quality and Efficiency with a Cobot Cell: 2022 Innovation Award Winner

Natech had a machine that was rapidly producing high volumes of a single product. The job required two to three operators to pack parts into boxes. Because of the high-speed, repetitive tasks and setup of the conveyor system, the job was labor-intensive and difficult for the operators. To address this issue, our engineers programmed and implemented a 6-axis collaborative Universal Robot, or cobot cell.

Meet our cobot, Captain America. Captain America picks up 20 parts at once from a conveyor and neatly places them into storage boxes. The cobot moves and packages parts so we can reduce labor demand, improve operator safety, and enhance packaging quality.

Natech received a recognition by MAPP (Manufacturers Association for Plastic Processors) and stands as a 2022 Innovation Award winner for the work on the cobot. This year’s award focused on automated manufacturing solutions. This honor champions projects that demonstrate a positive impact, carry significant value, and display a high level of creativity to improve efficiency in manufacturing.
